Our Story

The story behind Pucks with Purpose

About five years ago, Joe attended his first hockey game in Huntsville. Having grown up in Houston, he hadn't been exposed to the sport very much - but from the moment the puck dropped, he was hooked.

Over time, his enthusiasm for hockey grew into something more. What began as a simple fandom evolved into the "Little Joe" persona - an effort to bring energy, connection and positivity to the arena experience. He made it a point to engage with fans, especially the young ones, by offering a quick hello or a fist bump, helping create the memorable moments for families and kids.

As that presence grew, so did a desire to give back to the community that had given him so much. Hockey is a major part of the culture in Huntsville - but it can also be financially out of reach for many families. That realization inspired him to take the next step.

From that vision, Pucks with Purpose was created. Our mission is to reduce the financial barriers and expand access to youth hockey by providing equipment donations and financial assistance to families in need. We are committed to ensuring that every child who wants to experience the game has the opportunity to do so, regardless of financial circumstances.

Our Vision

Pucks for a Purpose is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access to youth hockey.

Our vision is to create a community where every child—regardless of financial circumstances—has the opportunity to participate in the game through access to essential resources.

We strive to provide gear loan programs, assist families with equipment purchases, support access to ice time, and guide players in joining youth leagues.

Through these efforts, we aim to foster inclusion, build confidence, and grow the game by ensuring that passion—not privilege—determines who gets to play.
